「圍魏救趙」是中國歷史上一個十分成功的戰例，它主張對敵方避實就虛，善於抓住敵方的弱點，使敵人受到牽制，從而用最少的代價去取得最完滿的成功。
周瑜屢向劉備索回荊州未果，周瑜便定計，以幫劉備攻打西川之名，行實際進兵荊州之計，周瑜告知劉備屆時請出城接應錢糧和勞軍，實欲活捉劉備直取荊州。
